Tips for Healthy Feet

Tips for Healthy Feet
admin

Our feet play an essential role in our everyday lives. Therefore, it’s very important to keep healthy feet. A survey conducted in 2014, concluded that out of ten Americans, eight of them have suffered from foot problems, ranging from toenail to chronic foot pain. Although many people suffer foot pain, they tend to be the most neglected part of the body. Unfortunately, if certain foot conditions are not treated immediately, it’s likely to result in a larger problem and the ability to remain functional.

Foot dysfunction can not only affect one’s physical life but also our psychological and social lives. The health of our feet is very crucial. Even if your feet look well, the most important thing is how they function.

Luckily, there are some healthy practices that we could take to keep our feet healthy. Here are the dos and don’ts to help you treat your feet right and prevent foot pain.

What to Avoid for Healthy Feet

  • Wearing very tight shoes
  • Sharing shoes and pedicure tools with your friends
  • Applying polish on discolored nails instead of treating them first
  • Shaving calluses and removing an ingrown toenail on your own

How to Maintain Healthy Feet

  • Try the Legs-Up the Wall yoga pose
  • Massage your feet often
  • Roll a tennis ball under your feet
  • Try natural ways of soothing irritation, such as soaking your foot in vinegar

What about Socks?

Often people wonder whether it’s a healthy practice to wear socks in bed. Well, there isn’t anything wrong with doing so, unless the socks are too tight and constricting. Individuals are however instructed to change their socks daily. But even as you do that, you should bear in mind that cold tootsies could be a sign of an underlying foot condition.

Shoes and Foot Health

Did you know that the majority of people have one foot size larger than the other? Therefore, it’s important that you fit each foot when purchasing new shoes. Check to ensure that you’ve got enough depth to keep your toes from rubbing the depth. Also, it’s important to walk around with the shoes before you buy to rule out any chances of sliding or rubbing. Try to form a habit of inspecting your shoes for wear and tear before wearing them.

Women should also remember that high heels tend to interfere with the natural foot position in relation to the ankle. If it’s a must that you wear heels, choose a sensible pair and wear them sparingly.

How Do I Tackle Rough Skin and Calluses?

Corns and calluses are thickened skin caused by abnormal pressure or rubbing. While they aren’t a threatening foot problem, they can cause a foot dysfunction. Typically caused by bad shoes. You’re therefore advised to use a pumice stone to get rid of the tough skin. But avoid using foot peels or callus shavers as they can lead to severe damage to your foot.

It’s essential that we keep our feet healthy and looking good. Always note when there are any changes, pain or irritation on your feet. It’s important to act on the problem immediately.
